I look up to a LOT of artists. When people ask who my influences are, I say, do you have all day to hear about it? If it was on cmt in the last 10 years, chances are I know it and love it. My musical taste buds are diverse I tell ya! Now with all this said, when we found out we were playing at the Big Valley Jamboree and I put two and two together that Miranda Lambert was playing, I darn heck near had a teenage girl squealing moment. I ADORE her. And it’s not just the attitude or how pretty she is that gets me. It’s how she delivers a song, you can’t beat it!

I started playing country music because I was such an over-analytical fan that listening alone never satisfied me. I learned cover songs just so that I could sing em to myself! haha Now, growing up in the woods in Newfoundland, I was lucky to even have a tv with cable to watch cmt for hours a day. So I never thought I’d ever get to GO to concerts or festivals or awards shows, let alone play at one! So as we are entering the gates at BVJ to hear my newly appointed favourite artist of the decade, it was a happy moment wrapped up in overcoming barriers and gratefulness. I can hardly believe my life that I get to hear her. We had re-arranged a lot for me to be able to see her, including flights and hotels on the other side of the country.

Then, halfway through the third song “Dry Town”, which, yes I sing to myself, all of a sudden the band gets quiet and the thing gets shut down. My hopes and dreams of hearing who I think is the best TRUE female country singer in this decade are yet to be requitted. It was defenitely the right choice by the BVJ crowd. But I tell ya, I woulda stayed in the rain! So Miranda, if you’re reading this, we are really sorry we didn’t get to party with you on Friday night at Camrose.

I cried all the way back to my hotel room. The guys in the band came with me and tried to cheer me up with slurpies and chocolate. They are rock guys but they sympathized saying “if that was my favourite artist I’d be sad too”.

BTW thanks again to all the folks who were so supportive and encouraging at our show at BVJ! I know most of y’all came for the free sausages, but we’re a new band so we’ll take what we can get ok? hahaha.
